What I Will Ask For As They Head Back to School
So, Bank Holiday weekend is almost over.
And we all know what that means – the end of another summer. Goodbye lazy days and late nights. Farewell crazy travel schedules and cross-country midweek meetups. Life is about to get some of its rhythm back!
As we welcome the new academic year, many of us will shortly be kissing cheeks, packing lunches and sending our children off for their First Day.
As I see my own child walking confidently away from me, my heart is full of both hope for a wonderful year and fear for all the things I can’t control and may never even know.
As parents, there is nothing to do but try our absolute best and pray hard. So for her and all our beautiful children, I ask:
Our Lord, keep our beloved children, our gifts from You, under Your perfect protection.
Keep them safe from all harm: known and unknown, visible and invisible.
Cover them with Your mercy and envelop them with Your light. Illuminate them so that they may be beacons of hope in their communities.
Help them to be good company and to be in good company – to have friends that help them and not harm them.
Grant them every success, happiness, steadfastness and peace.
O Allah, I ask that you bless them with Your love and the love of those who love You, and for the love of every deed which brings them nearer to Your love.
O our Sustainer! Grant that our spouses and our offspring be a joy to our eyes, and cause us to be foremost among those who are conscious of You! (Qur’an 25:74)
And send Your mercy on the Unlettered Prophet Muhammad and on his family and shower him with peace.
Ameen.
