I judgey judge faced so many baby products as a first time mama. I even eschewed a stroller for first baby till he was almost 13 months old! Wipe warmers? (Just hold the wipe in your hand for a few seconds). The Tummy tub ?(A glorified bucket if I ever saw one.) Baby high heels (I can’t even … ) And when I saw baby perfume I was officially over it. As in perfume – for babies? As if babies need something out of a bottle when they already have that supernatural yummy baby smell emanating from their whole body! Right? Totally ridiculous baby product if there ever was one.
I love perfume. Adult perfume. If I could have been anything in another life I would have been a perfume seller. You know the old style ones … Apothecary, glass tinctures, personalised perfumes the whole thing. But when I became an expectant mama for the first time I started rethinking everything. I was planning on breastfeeding so … I couldn’t wear perfume could I? I didn’t want the baby to be allergic or ingest all those ingredients and fumes … I even stopped using deodorant as the under arm lymph nodes are so closely related to the Breast tissue. (In case you are wondering I replaced deodorant with coconut oil – worked a treat!) But I still wanted to smell good. The oil based attars and ouds although all ‘proclaiming’ their ‘natural’ properties were too strong. I just wanted an everyday breezy smell.
And this is when I had an idea. Those baby perfumes I had so easily poo pooed ~ I didn’t have to use them for BABY! You guys I totally bought baby perfume to use on ~ myself!
There are a whole range of baby perfumes out there. I admit I only tried two. And only liked one. But the one I liked? I not just liked it. I LOVED it. Such a good treat for a mama. It’s a perfect new mama present for yourself or for your best friend. Just make sure you tell her it’s for her and not for her baby, otherwise she might judge you as being crazy!
Alcohol free and formulated without Parabens and Phthalates, Mustela’s ‘Musti Eau de Soin’ smells like a fresh shower or a quick cool massage from a friend, uplifting and spring like.
I only used it in those early days for both my babies and so like all smells from a particular time period in your life, it brings back nostalgic memories … I can’t wait to order my bottle this time round and I’ll be sending one to my sister who is to be a first time mama any day soon!
What are some weird baby products that you ended up actually loving? We’d love to know!
(I asked my friends what baby product they found to be initially ridiculous but finally loved, and one product came out top ~ the NoseFrida! I have never used one but apparently it’s literally a ‘snot sucker’ and one of those hilarious things that just seems too gross but ‘does what it says on the box’!)
P.S This is NOT a sponsored post! I have used and loved this perfume with my real babies way before I had this blog baby(!) and we would never do a sponsored post without letting our readers know.

Really enjoyed this, strangely warm and comfortable to read!
Best product was APNO cream. I actually asked for a prescription before I even gave birth to baby number 3. When you know, you know! Even without a new baby on the way, I do want that baby perfume 😜
*goes off to google APNO* 😂
I think there should be a perfume that smells like that ” supernatural yummy baby smell”. I definitely wouldn’t mind if people were walking around smelling like that.
Really enjoyed this post, the baby market is such a major industry- there must be all sorts of innovative products out there!
Am similarly baffled & troubled by the existence of baby high heels! Haha@ the nosefrida- glad it comes with filters..
